It was a day for Royal(s) - Royal Challengers and Rajasthan Royals – as they won their matches yesterday, both the matches were nail bitters and went to the last over – real thrillers.

MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting wicket. Vijay and Hayden opened the innings. Kumble bowled the tidy first over for just 4 runs. Hayden took the attack back to Bangalore scoring 16runs in the next over bowled by Vinay Kumar. Vijay was the first to go and he struggled for his 5 runs of 9 balls. Kallis got the wicket of Vijay in his first over and the 4th of the match, a wicket maiden over. The inform Raina couldn’t do much this time and got out in the second over of Kallis after scoring 13(10). Dhoni joined Hayden when the score was 48/2 in 5.4 overs. They played sensible cricket not giving away any chance to the opposition and took the score to 72/2 at strategic break. Dhoni got out to a stunning catch by van der Merwe and he scored 18(20). Hayden got out in the next over from Kumble to a good catch at midwicket. Hayden scored 60 runs in just 38 balls and the score was 101/4 in 13.2 overs. This wicket really turned things around for Royal Challengers as the other batsman struggled to score runs and got out in quick successions. Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 129 in 19.4 overs. Kallis, Kumble and Vinay Kumar got 2 wickets each. Royal Challengers Bangalore fielded exceptionally well in this match.

Yesterday’s match in DLF IPL T20 2009 (Match 43 – Delhi Daredevils vs Deccan Chargers) was a match full of turn arounds. Rajat Bhatia was the man who finally turned it to Delhi Daredevils.

Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi Daredevils opened their innings with Gauti and Warner, inspite of Sehwag’s return to the playing eleven. Warner fell early to Chaminda Vaas in the 2nd over after scoring 4 runs in 6 balls. Dilshan was the next man in and opened his account with consecutive boundaries. Rohit Sharma dropped a sitter when Dilshan gloved one to shortish gully. Dilshan made good use of the drop chance and played aggressively. He scored 24runs (4,6,2,4,4,4) of the 6th over bowled by Shoaib Maqsusi, the highest run conceded in a single over in this IPL. Delhi Daredevils scored 56 runs losing just 1 wicket in the powerplay. Symonds got the wicket of Dilshan who scored 37 runs in just 18 balls. Another catch was dropped at long on when Ravi Teja spilled one which came straight to him and the ball bounced of his hands for a six. AB de Villiers was the batsman this time. Gambhir got out just before the strategic break and left Delhi Daredevils at 81/3 during the break. Sehwag was the next man in and he opened his account with a simple catch dropped by Symonds at long on. Vaas took the wicket of Sehwag in the 14th over and he scored 11 runs in 10 balls. AB de Villiers got out at crucial stage after scoring 44 runs in just 36balls. After 17 overs Delhi were 130/5. It looked like Chargers will be bundle out Delhi below 150, but Kartick played smart cricket and took them to a challenging total of 173/7. He scored 23 runs of the last over bowled by Vaas including 2 sixes. Vaas conceded 52 runs in his 4 overs and this is the highest by any bowler in this IPL. Deccan Chargers equaled the record of Knight Riders dropping 4 simple catches.

Kolkata Knight Riders finally managed to put a good show with the bat and it didn’t lasted long as the bowling let them down. Its really heart breaking day for McCullum when he finds his efforts put into trash by his bowlers. Not for me as the result was as many expected. So do I. :-)

Royal Challengers won the toss and put Kolkata Knight Riders to bat first. McCullum and Ganguly opened the innings for Kolkata. Ganguly got out early edging one to keeper, of the bowling of Vinay Kumar and he scored only a boundary in his 6 ball innings. Ghosh was the next man in and he lost his wicket scoring 7 in 7 balls. Hussey got the chance replacing Hodge, the top scorer for Kolkata in this version. Not sure what happened to him!? McCullum and Hussey played well to take Kolkata to 69/2 at strategic break. A good recovery from the bad start 21/2. Hussey was bowled by Akhil. Hussey scored 43 runs in just 27 balls and put on 70 run partnership with McCullum. McCullum scored his first fifty in this IPL and continued to strike well. He batted aggressively at the end and remained not out at 84 in just 64balls. Royal Challengers couldn’t keep the runs down at the end and they conceded 60 runs in last 4 overs, inspite of Kumble sliping in a tight over, 18th of the match, picking up a wicket just for four runs. Kolkata Knight Riders reached 173/4 in their 20 overs, their highest in this DLF IPL 2009.

IPL T20 – Big win for Deccan Chargers against Rajasthan Royals

Deccan Chargers added two more points and moved up to 3rd position with yesterdays 53-run victory against Rajasthan Royals. This victory is their largest in term of runs. Hyderabad now need only 2 more wins to move to the Semi Final. On the other hand Rajasthan Royals, the defending champions have to win their rest of the games, 3 out of 3, to make it to the Semi Final.

Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bat inspite of the fact that on the previous two occasions team batting second won the match. Gilchrist and Suman opened the innings for Deccan Chargers. Gilly opened his account with a huge six over square leg. He was unlucky to be judged LBW of the bowling of Yusuf Pathan, the ball pitched outside leg stump. He scored 10runs of 11 balls. Suman played some good shots and lost his wicket trying to hit one over mid wicket. He scored 29runs in just 19balls including 3 fours and a six.  Expectations were high when Rohit Sharma came to bat but he couldn’t do much and was stumped by Ojha of the bowling of Jadeja. Deccan Chargers were 77/3 during strategic break. Symonds scored quick 30runs in 19balls. Dwayne Smith was the star with the bat. He scored 47 important runs in just 32 balls. He was well supported by Vaas and Rao and helped Deccan Chargers reach 166/7 in 20 Overs.  Yusuf Pathan took 3 wickets while Jadeja claimed 2 wickets.

IPL T20 Points table after 39 League matches

In yesterday’s matches Delhi Daredevils won by 7 Wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi Daredevils are almost through to the semi finals and their winning streak continues with good bowling and batting. They are now in the top of the table with 14 points. On the other hand Kolkata Knight Riders continue to retain their last position. They continue to loss matches by huge margin and with the same team.
In the other match Royal Challengers Bangalore lost to Mumbai Indians by 16Runs. Mumbai Indian have 9 points and Royal Challengers have 8 points. They both have 4 games left and they could make the semi’s only if they win all those 4 matches.
