IPL T20 – Taylor’s magic keeps Royal Challengers in track
Cricket, General May 13th, 2009Kolkata Knight Riders finally managed to put a good show with the bat and it didn’t lasted long as the bowling let them down. Its really heart breaking day for McCullum when he finds his efforts put into trash by his bowlers. Not for me as the result was as many expected. So do I.
IPL 2009 – Match 41 – Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Full Scorecard
Royal Challengers won the toss and put Kolkata Knight Riders to bat first. McCullum and Ganguly opened the innings for Kolkata. Ganguly got out early edging one to keeper, of the bowling of Vinay Kumar and he scored only a boundary in his 6 ball innings. Ghosh was the next man in and he lost his wicket scoring 7 in 7 balls. Hussey got the chance replacing Hodge, the top scorer for Kolkata in this version. Not sure what happened to him!? McCullum and Hussey played well to take Kolkata to 69/2 at strategic break. A good recovery from the bad start 21/2. Hussey was bowled by Akhil. Hussey scored 43 runs in just 27 balls and put on 70 run partnership with McCullum. McCullum scored his first fifty in this IPL and continued to strike well. He batted aggressively at the end and remained not out at 84 in just 64balls. Royal Challengers couldn’t keep the runs down at the end and they conceded 60 runs in last 4 overs, inspite of Kumble sliping in a tight over, 18th of the match, picking up a wicket just for four runs. Kolkata Knight Riders reached 173/4 in their 20 overs, their highest in this DLF IPL 2009.
Royal Challengers Bangalore started off slowly chasing a huge total of 174. Kallis and Ryder opened the innings. They kept their wickets in tact but just managed 46 Runs in the powerplay. McCullum brought an end to the opening stand as he latched a stunning catch to send Kallis back. Ryder followed his opening partner and fell in the next over top edging to Ganguly at third man. At the strategic break Royal Challengers were struggling at 70/2, requiring 104 runs in 60 balls. Uthappa got out the very first over after break for 7 runs in 9 balls. It was Taylor who did the magic to take Royal Challengers to an unbelievable victory. Royal Challengers needed 94 runs in 48 balls and Taylor scored 70 of them in just 26 balls. He was assited by Dravid who scored 12 in 12 and Boucher scoring 13 in 9. Taylor was also helped by poor bowling from Agarkar and Ishant Sharma. They bowled 17th, 18th and 19th over and conceded 47 runs in 18 balls when the opposition needed 52 of 24. Royal Challengers chased down 174 with 4 balls to spare and 6 wickets in hand. A high scoring match with lots of boundaries and sixes, a real treat to watch.
IPL 2009 – Match 42 – Mumbai Indians Vs Kings XI Punjab – Full Scorecard
On the other match, Mumbai Indians won by 8 wickets. Power failure prevented me from enjoying the good batting by Bravo and The Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar. Kings XI Punjab posted a low score of 119/9 in 20 overs, thanks to their poor batting. I was shocked to see Sangakkara, a batsman in good form, giving away too many dot balls in a 20-20 match. He scored 8 runs in 19 balls, not fair from a player of his standards. Mumbai Indians assited by good batting from Bravo and Sachin chased down the little target in 16.2 overs just losing 2 wickets.
IPL T20 – Points table:
This victory pulled back things for Mumbai Indians and they moved to 4th position in the table. They now have 11 points and ahead of Rajasthan Royals only due to better run rate. Bangalore added 2 more points to their tally and move above Punjab with a better run rate.
Todays Match:
Delhi Daredevils Vs Deccan Chargers
Deccan Chargers must win this game to keep them in the top four, otherwise they will be forced to compete with other 4 teams for a place in Semi Finals. Delhi Daredevils would want to retain their winning streak and hence the top position.
