In yesterday’s IPL T20 match Deccan Chargers played against Mumbai Indians in SuperSport Park, Centurion.  Gilchrist, captain of Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first.

Gilchrist and Gibbs opened the innings for Deccan Chargers. Gibbs failed once again to score runs and edged one to safe hands of Sachin. Suman came in at no.2 and scored 20(13) before edging one to keeper Shah. Gilchrist played well, nudging singles knowing the importance of his presence till the end, but got out to a full length delivery just before the strategic break. He scored 25 of 29 balls, unlike him. At the strategic break Deccan Chargers were 63/3. Smith lost his wicket trying to play big shots. Rohit Sharma batted well for his 38(36) but couldn’t hit big shots against the good blowing of Mumbai Indians. Harbhajan didn’t had a good day with the ball as he was hit out of the park 3 times in 2 overs. Good fielding and bowling helped Mumbai Indians to restrict Deccan Chargers to 145/6 in 20 Overs. Malinga, Kulkarni, Bravo, Raje and Jayasuriya all got a wicket each.

A good start is all need for Mumbai Indians to chase a low-score of 145. Jayasuriya and Sachin opened the innings. Jayasuriya slashed a short ball from RP Singh to thrid man and Harris took an excellent catch diving to his right. RP Singh followed up with a fuller deilvery and the ball swung back a little to cleanup Sachin, who closed the face of his bat early looking to play fine. Two big wickets in two balls and the Deccan Chargers were right back into the game. Duminy and Shah joined to consolidate the early bolw with scoreboard reading 7/2. Shah played some good shots scoring 29 in just 19 balls. His cameo included couple of paddle shots with fine leg up, two clean hits over the rope and a reverse sweep. He was caught trying to hit over long on, Smith was the fielder who took catch and dived forward un-necessarily. Duminy played well on one end carrying his good form in this tournament. Mumbai Indians recovered well from the early blow and were at a strong position during the strategic break with 71/3 on board. Bravo and Duminy played well and took the score to 97/3 in 14 Overs. Mumbai Indians needed 49Runs of 36Balls and equation looked simple with Bravo and Duminy in good touch. Bravo lofted the first ball of the 15th over and couldn’t clear long on. Rohit Sharma came to bowl and took 4wickets in 5balls including a hat-trick. He bowled well conceding just 6 Runs in his 2 Overs. In no time Mumbai Indians lost the match from a good position and could only manage 128/8 in 20 Overs.

IPL T20 – Points Table

Deccan Chargers bounced back strongly after losing 3 matches in a row and moved up to second position in the points table. With 2 wickets in this match RP Singh now has 15 wickets in this IPL T20 2009 and got back the Purple Cap. He’s blowing has improved considerably and with his current form its certain that he will also get back his position in the Indian team.
