IPL 2009 – Match 43 – Delhi Daredevils Vs Deccan Chargers – Full Scorecard
Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi Daredevils opened their innings with Gauti and Warner, inspite of Sehwag’s return to the playing eleven. Warner fell early to Chaminda Vaas in the 2nd over after scoring 4 runs in 6 balls. Dilshan was the next man in and opened his account with consecutive boundaries. Rohit Sharma dropped a sitter when Dilshan gloved one to shortish gully. Dilshan made good use of the drop chance and played aggressively. He scored 24runs (4,6,2,4,4,4) of the 6th over bowled by Shoaib Maqsusi, the highest run conceded in a single over in this IPL. Delhi Daredevils scored 56 runs losing just 1 wicket in the powerplay. Symonds got the wicket of Dilshan who scored 37 runs in just 18 balls. Another catch was dropped at long on when Ravi Teja spilled one which came straight to him and the ball bounced of his hands for a six. AB de Villiers was the batsman this time. Gambhir got out just before the strategic break and left Delhi Daredevils at 81/3 during the break. Sehwag was the next man in and he opened his account with a simple catch dropped by Symonds at long on. Vaas took the wicket of Sehwag in the 14th over and he scored 11 runs in 10 balls. AB de Villiers got out at crucial stage after scoring 44 runs in just 36balls. After 17 overs Delhi were 130/5. It looked like Chargers will be bundle out Delhi below 150, but Kartick played smart cricket and took them to a challenging total of 173/7. He scored 23 runs of the last over bowled by Vaas including 2 sixes. Vaas conceded 52 runs in his 4 overs and this is the highest by any bowler in this IPL. Deccan Chargers equaled the record of Knight Riders dropping 4 simple catches.
Deccan Chargers opened their innings with Gilchrist and Suman. Gilchrist started his innings with 4 boundaries of the first over. He continued to dominate the bowling and the first 2 overs yielded 30 Runs, Gilchirst scoring 27 of them in just 9 balls. Sangwan came to bowl as the first change and he got the wicket of Suman who couldn’t keep his nerve, lobbed a straight catch to Nehra at mid on. Drop catches continued as Gilchrist was dropped twice in two overs, by Mishra at midwicket – a tough chance and a sitter by AB de Villiers at the first slip. Sangwan continued to bowl impressively and took the wicket of Rohit Sharma 6(7) caught by Warner at short covers. Gilchirst continued his onslaught and took Deccan Chargers to 83/2 at strategic break. He scored 63 of them in just 31 balls. None of the batsman at the other end assisted him and it looked like two different games. With Gilchrist in blistering form, 91 runs in 10 overs looked acheivable for Deccan Chargers. But the confidence was shattered by Sangwan as he knocked out the off-stump of Gilchrist in the 11th over leaving Deccan Chargers @ 86/3. Symonds was the next batsman and he started attacking straight away. Ravi Teja and Symonds put on 62 runs for the 4th wicket in just 37 deliveries. Ravi Teja struggled initially and finally managed to score some boundaries before getting out for 27 from 34 balls and he was dropped when he was 15 by Nehra of his own bowling. Deccan Chargers needed just 25 runs in last 18 balls and with Symonds and Smith in the crease it looked like a cakewalk. Bhatia came to bowl the 17th over of the Deccan Chargers innings and took the wickets of dangerous Symonds and Smith in 3 balls and completely changed the match equation. Nehra bowled the next over and took the wicket of Venugopal Rao and he also run out RP Singh. Bhatia continued his good bowling and cleaned up the tail picking up the last 2 wickets in concecutive deliveries. Deccan Chargers were bowled out for 161, 12 runs short of Delhi Daredevils. Deccan Chargers lost their last 7 wickets in just 17 balls and thowed away a simple chance to move to the top of the points table.
IPL T20 – Points Table
Delhi Daredevils are through to the semi finals and they retain their top position in the points table. Deccan Chargers yet again lost a match from a comfortable position and remains in their 3rd position.
Today’s Matches:
Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Chennai Super Kings
Mumbai Indians Vs Rajasthan Royals
Its a must win situation for Royal Challengers Bangalore. A defeat means they are nearly out of the competition. On the other hand Chennai Super Kings would want to win the match and seal their position in the Semi Finals. I go with Chennai Super Kings as always
Both Mumbai Indian and Rajasthan Royals have 11 points and both the teams can afford to lose only one of their 3 matches. Shane Warne is injured and he wont be playing the match and it would be a big blow for Rajasthan Royals. Mumbai Indian with a big win in their previous match looks to be the favorites.
