I read that somewhere #1
I read August 4th, 2009I happened to read this message about friendship day in a forwarded mail.
I’m sharing this as I totally agree with that!
Friendship Day – The day for the friends of this world. The day in which everyone can make new friends and spend time with their existing friends. Whenever this day comes, one major question lingers on my mind…Do we have to celebrate it? Is it necessary?
The International Friendship Day according to US is celebrated in the US every first Sunday of August from 1935. In India, Archies one of the Greeting card companies in order to increase their sales and increase the usage of gifts and cards, introduced it in the year 1996.
Economically speaking India is an huge market for any company. A greeting card company can’t sustain with Diwali, Christmas and New Year Greetings. So they introduced a slew of days like Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Women’s Day likewise. Even Valentine’s day was popularised by these companies. But Friendship day is different from all these days because, a person will have hundreds of friends and everyone are fond of their friends. If they market a day for them, it will definitely worout in a positive way for these companies. So ultimately friendship day was born.
Can any body find references of Friendship day in Europe? ( Did some research on net) Nope…
Why we Indians get fooled by these kind of marketing gimmicks? This year’s Friendship day market is estimated to be Rs.300 crores. The price range of greeting card starts from Rs.2(I have not seen it ) to Rs.5000. And we people buy those greeting cards to present it to our friends.
Dear friends, Tell me one thing, do we need a day celebrate our friendship? Everyday is a celebration for Friendship. Everyday we enjoy being together. One of my friends gifted one of his office friends on one fine day with a book. She asked why you are gifting me? He just said i felt like gifting this book today. It was neither her birthday nor his birthday and certainly not a friendship day.
If we allow this marketing gimmicks to prolong, we will be celebrating Neighbours Day, Divorce Day, Love Failure Day, Single men day etc etc…
Just think for a minute, there are lot more things to take rather than celebrating Friendship from Lebanon to Andhra Floods…Please pray for those people and the greatest thing in this year’s Friendship we are celebrating friendship day on the day Hiroshima was bombed ?????? Irony..
Happy Friendship Day………

Good thoughts. Actually, the friendship day is not celebrated among friends. Indirectly, they encourage adultery. Maybe I am going far but just think.. who buys those cards? Youngsters. Whom do they give the cards? To the opposite sex only.
Have you ever got a card from a friend of same gender of yours? in 99% of cases, it doesn’t happen. The youth needs a way so they will find it any how.. rose day.. chocolate, valentine.. the list goes on.
